Learn more about 826NYC.
Brooklyn Public Library and 826NYC, are proud to announce the opening of 826NYC's highly-acclaimed tutoring center at Brooklyn Public Library's Williamsburgh Library. 826NYC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting students ages 6-18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write.
One of Brooklyn Public Library's goals is to help meet the educational needs of children, and by partnering with 826NYC, BPL is able to make another stride towards that goal. BPL is also offering library cards to all children who visit the 826NYC center, so they can use BPL's public computers and check out books that will help them with the projects they complete in their tutoring sessions.
826NYC's new Williamsburgh outpost draws kids with a superhero theme already prevalent at its Park Slope flagship location. That same theme is communicated here through a "Superhero Vault," complete with flashing lights and magnetic maps of the neighborhood, which acts as a command center with student computers. This theme, as well as the location inside the library - a place in which kids are already familiar and comfortable -- helps puts kids at ease and makes them feel like 826NYC is a place geared towards them, and how they learn.
