Celebrate Black History Month!

Brooklyn Public Library is proud to celebrate Black History Month. This February, BPL is presenting dozens of movies, performances, author readings and other events that honor the past and present achievements of African Americans. We encourage you to explore black history and the African American experience by viewing our book recommendations, attending events, browsing our photo and art exhibition archives, or visiting BPL's African American Heritage Center or Caribbean Literary and Cultural Center.

BPL Staff Picks

"There are books that I read over and over again, books that I urge young people and adults who work with them to read, books that I am so happy the library has in its collection, and new books that speak volumes to me, reminding me of the power of the written and spoken word, resilience of Black people, and enduring spirit of our ancestors, values that can and should be celebrated daily, not just one month, by all." – Angeli, BPL staff member and co-editor of Sacred Fire: The QBR 100 Essential Black Books
