The Negro Baseball Leagues & Memories of a Childhood in Brooklyn by Lou Grant

My paintings focus on memories of growing up in Brooklyn. They picture Negro League baseball players that I remember from games I attended with my parents in the 1930s and 1940s. In addition to these paintings, my collection also includes works that recall a tradition of posed family portraits. These paintings come from memories of relatives and people from my childhood in the Sheepshead Bay area of Brooklyn.

Graphic designer, artist and former amateur baseball player Lou Grant was born in Brooklyn in 1934 and attended Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. He has exhibited his work at dozens of art galleries, including the Arts Society of Kingston in Kingston, New York; Frank J. Miele Gallery in New York City; and George Krevsky Gallery in San Francisco. Grant has lived and worked in Gardiner, New York, in the Mid-Hudson Valley for the past 30 years.
