Livable Streets in Brooklyn by Transportation Alternatives, Project for Public Spaces and The Open Planning Project

New York City's streets are the soul of its neighborhoods and the pathways to some of the world's most in-demand destinations. For generations, New Yorkers and visitors have strolled, shopped and socialized on sidewalks and street corners. Streets are more than just car corridors; they are valuable civic spaces and resources that need to be wisely allocated.

This exhibition has elevated the debate in New York about how our streets can be used if we prioritize people and public spaces while creating great destinations for social activity. A growing number of policy makers recognize that design and planning decisions that encourage pedestrian accessibility are vital facets of modern cities. By highlighting Brooklyn's efforts to reclaim space for people, we hope to illuminate the possibilities of New York City's street renaissance.

The NYC Streets Renaissance (NYCSR) Campaign started in 2005 to promote the transformation of New York City's streets into quality public spaces for all to enjoy. The NYCSR partner organizations are Transportation Alternatives, Project for Public Spaces and The Open Planning Project.
