The Big Read

Read with your community this March and make Their Eyes Were Watching God a Brooklyn classic.

Brooklyn Public Library proudly hosts The Big Read, a campaign that's all about bringing people together to share classic literature and understand how its themes are still relevant today. The selected novel is Zora Neale Hurston's Their Eyes Were Watching God.

Throughout the month of March we will hold book talks and movie screenings in branch libraries throughout Brooklyn. A full list of Big Read related events is here. You can also discuss the book online by going to our online book discussion blog, Brooklyn Book Talk.

Look for Big Read Reading Guides for Zora Neale Hurston's Their Eyes Were Watching God in your neighborhood library and around the community.

All events are part of The Big Read, an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Arts Midwest. The Big Read for military communities is made possible by The Boeing Company.

The Big Read is an initiative designed to revitalize the role of literature in American culture and bring the transformative power of literature into the lives of its citizens.
