Email
Email stands for Electronic Mail and is a system for sending messages via the Internet. You can send messages to anyone in the world as long as you have their email address (this address is different from a Web address, or URL). You can write text messages and also attach photos and other kinds of documents.
An email address always has the same format. It consists of a username, the @ symbol, and a domain name (often the name of the company providing the email account). For example, jdoe@yahoo.com
Getting an Email Account
There are many places to get a free email account. A few free services include but are not limited to the following: Hotmail, Yahoo, Lycos, and Juno.
Usually all you need to set up an account is provide some basic personal information and create a username and a password.
When creating a username and password you should use a combination of letters and numbers and avoid special characters such as spaces or punctuation marks. For example, a username could be jane86.
Internet Service Providers and organizations also offer email accounts. If you have Internet access from home you probably also already have an email account. Visit your ISP ’s Web site for details on how to access it.
