Computer Viruses

A computer virus is a small program designed to replicate itself endlessly inside your computer's memory. Some viruses also perform another insidious function such as displaying a funny message on your monitor or erasing a particular file, but the real danger of a virus is that it fills up the memory that a computer needs to function.

The most common way to get a computer virus is by opening an infected email attachment. For this reason it is never a good idea to open a message from a sender you don't recognize.

Another way to protect yourself from a computer virus is to install a good antivirus software on your computer. Microsoft Windows users should also frequently run Windows Updates.
