Trip Tips
- All times are great for visiting the market. However, summer and fall provide abundant harvests.
- Since the most markets operate one day a week, it's best to get the little ones out soon after breakfast. Mid-morning welcomes a crush of shoppers.
Suggestions for your adventure
- Sunscreen
- Hat
- Snacks
- Shopping bags for your purchases
- Find a nearby Farmer's Market.
- Make a shopping list of what you will get at the market with your child. Let your child watch you write. Give children two years and up pencil and paper to "write" their own list (scribbling is the first stage in learning to write).
- When you arrive at the Farmer's Market, talk to your child about what you see. You may feel funny doing it with your baby, but babies love to hear loved ones' voices. For talkers, point out familiar fruits and vegetables and encourage your child to name them.
- Stop by your local library for picture books about fruits and vegetables, cook books, and more!
