Donating Library Materials

Donations are accepted at all libraries. Please help us to better serve you by following these guidelines:

  • Limit your donation to three boxes of materials you can carry per week.
  • Deliver your materials by hand to your neighborhood library or Central Library.*
  • Please do not call for a pickup as we cannot provide this service.
  • BPL accepts the following materials in good physical condition:
    • Hardcover and paperback books (for children, teens, and adults)
    • Videos and DVDs
    • CDs
    • Audiobooks
    • Periodical subscriptions


BPL does not accept:

  • Encyclopedias
  • Directories, almanacs or yearbooks
  • Reader's Digest Condensed Books
  • Computer, health, finance books or textbooks more than three years old
  • Single issues of magazines or other periodicals
  • Records (LPs, 45s etc.)


THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING BPL! Your donation may be put into circulation at the location of receipt or at some other location of BPL, or it may be used for any other purpose, such as sale, at the discretion of the library. All proceeds from sales directly benefit Brooklyn Public Library.

*Please note: Because of the risk of injury, Central Library cannot accept any donations at the loading dock. All materials must be brought to the Information Center in the Lobby
