Volunteer

'As our volunteer program grows, every aspect of the Library's public service operation is enhanced by the efforts of volunteers. Whether as computer coaches, after-school homework helpers, English conversation group leaders or a myriad of other functions, volunteers make it possible for us to achieve our mission and to serve Brooklyn's diverse communities. We are deeply grateful for your service.' - Linda E. Johnson, President and CEO of Brooklyn Public Library Lindsay Anderberg, Reading Troubadour. As a volunteer, Lindsay visits local clinics to read aloud and distribute free books to children waiting to see a doctor. Roger Huang began volunteering at the Sunset Park Library as a Book Buddy and is now a member of the Multicultural Internship Program. According to library staff, Roger's service has been 'above and beyond the call of duty'. Cynthia Levy volunteers as an After-School Homework Helper at the Flatbush Library. She fosters a love of reading while helping students with their school assignments. Romello Mills began volunteering at the Central Library's Education & Job Information Center as an intern in the Multicultural Internship Program. Currently, Romello volunteers as a T4 (Today's Teens, Tomorrow's Techies) where he assists patrons with library technology. Robert Weber volunteers as an English Conversation Group Leader in the Central Library's Multilingual Center. Apart from bringing energy and enthusiasm as a group leader, Robert also assists library staff in training and mentoring new volunteers.

More than 1,500 volunteers - students, working parents, retired teachers, business professionals - contribute their talents, skills and knowledge to the people of Brooklyn at Brooklyn Public Library.
