In Your Own Words - Poetry, December 2007
A Word That Is Always Shattered
A word that is always shattered
Always in the dark
Shifting from one corner to the next.
Its voice muffled through the negative thoughts of others
Its heart
Pierced from disbelief.
Its soul
Becomes translucent
Of having no one believe it.
This word is HOPE.
A word that is always shattered
As it looks into the eyes of those who want it
To those who need it
But of those who just can't believe it.
To many defining the word
Is an easy task.
But to believe it
No one has seemed to pass.
A word that is always shattered
Always in the dark
This word....
This word is
HOPE.

- Monika, age 17

Untitled
Curiosity, my mind wonders, what was it like before?
Past times, different worlds, who was here before me?
I wonder what was here, who was here, rewind time, and see their present.
It's an interest with the prehistoric.
Who held it, how was it made, who were these people living in those days.
Around the table sits the family, the ones who were there for you, who are there
For you and never leave your side.
You can depend on them, even if trouble may arise, but it's no surprise,
Family is family and that's life.
Older people push and shove, and expect your respect.
Then they criticize you and say that you have no respect.
Maybe they're the ones who disrespect.
They think they know everything there is to know,
Which makes me angry, and upset.
