Are you looking to earn your high school diploma by taking the High School Equivalency (HSE) exam?
Brooklyn Public Library's Adult Learning program makes it possible for you to obtain your High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma via two different pathways:
GED exam (Central, Pacific, and New Lots Libraries)
The GED offers residents in New York State the opportunity to get their high school equivalency diploma.

Testing Information
A passing score of 145 points is required for each subject area.
Testing requires 2 days of approximately 4-5 hours each day. Day 1: Science (90 minutes) & Math (115 minutes) Day 2: Reasoning through Language Arts(RLA)-Reading and Writing (150 minutes), Social Studies (70 minutes),
It takes about 2 weeks to receive unofficial scores on the GED website and 8-10 weeks for your HSE Diploma to be mailed to you after passing the GED test.
Electronic devices of any kind are forbidden in the exam room. Examinee will not be permitted to continue testing if his/her electronic device is seen in the exam room.
Bring a valid government-issued ID to the testing site.

The National External Diploma Program (NEDP) is an applied performance assessment system that assesses the high school level of adults and out of school youth. This program is geared for those seeking a self-driven and independent diploma program.
Clients of NEDP will:
Meet with an assessor weekly
Master and complete 70 competencies in ten content areas including Financial Literacy, Health Literacy, Civic Literacy, Geography, History, Science, and 21st Century Workplace
Work completely online
Receive standards aligned to college and career readiness
Complete program in 6-9 months
Must be 18+ years of age, attend NEDP program orientation and pass CASAS diagnostic exam.

Ready for the HSE exam - Take the paper-based GED test at the Pacific Library. To register, click here.
Test Dates: Applications must be submitted two weeks before the exam date or you will be scheduled for the next available date.
Paper-based tests are held once a quarter at the Pacific Library.
2024-2025 PBT test dates - applications are due one month in advance of the scheduled test date.
Q1 (2024)- July 13 & 20; 10am
Q2 (2024)- October 21 & 28; 10am
Q3 (2025) - February 21 & 28; 10am
Q4 (2025) - May 2 & 9; 10am
For computer-based test at the New Lots, Central, or Pacific Library - create an account at GED.com to schedule your exam. Tests are administered monthly. Check the GED portal for available testing seats.
