For the past ten years, Siglio Press, founded by Lisa Pearson, has been committed to representing female authors and subjects, and equally to unusual and fruitful encounters with word and image on the page. This display invites you to explore multiple spreads of Siglio books in which image and text come together in uncommon and provocative ways, using collage, printmaking, conceptual techniques, detective fiction, cut ups and a cookbook as vehicles for new registers of visual storytelling. Taken together, these books urge us to experience the twin acts of reading and looking as generatively connected; the locus of the book and the printed page become open to new possibilities.
The selection of books on view emphasizes Siglio's feminist and formal editorial ethos, presenting six original titles by female authors and artists. Discover visual and textual correspondences between contributors of the unapologetically feminist anthology, It Is Almost That, and between standalone books by Sophie Calle, Karen Green, Dorothy Iannone, Nancy Spero and Cecilia Vicuña. For what is a book if not a space, a site to engender new ways of seeing and being in the world?
