Director Rebecca Miller delivers the keynote for the first LitFilm: A BPL Film Festival About Writers. She discusses her personal portrait of her father — master playwright Arthur Miller. The talk is followed by a Q&A and a reception in the Dweck Lobby.

Rebecca Miller has written and directed five feature films: Angela (1995) winner of the Sundance Film Festival Filmmakers Trophy and Cinematography Award, as well as the Gotham Award; Personal Velocity (2002) starring Parker Posey, Kyra Sedgwick, and Fairuza Balk, winner of the Sundance Grand Jury Prize and Cinematography Award, as well as the Independent Spirit John Cassavetes Award; The Ballad of Jack and Rose (2005) starring Daniel Day-Lewis and Camilla Belle; The Private Lives of Pippa Lee (2009) starring Robin Wright, Alan Arkin, and Keanu Reeves; and Maggie's Plan (2015) starring Greta Gerwig, Ethan Hawke, and Julianne Moore. Next up, Miller will direct her latest script She Came to Me (Amy Schumer, Nicole Kidman). Miller is also the screenwriter of the feature film Proof (2005) adapted from the stage play. Miller is the author of the short story collection Personal Velocity (2001) and the novels The Private Lives of Pippa Lee (2009), which has been published in over thirty countries, and Jacob's Folly (2013). She adapted Personal Velocity and The Private Lives of Pippa Lee for the screen.

Following the talk, Miller will have a moderated discussion with Philip Howze, a playwright whose work has been developed or produced at American AF Festival, The Public Theater, San Francisco Playhouse, and many other theaters. A graduate of Yale School of Drama, he is a Fellow of the Sundance Institute Theater Lab, a member of the Emerging Writers Group at the Public Theater, a Lucas Artist Fellow at Montalvo Arts Center, and a Resident Writer at Lincoln Center Theater.

This event will be followed by the opening reception. Return to full schedule here.
