Message from the Library: Edwidge Danticat
Speaking from BPL's historic Central Library lobby, celebrated author Edwidge Danticat will answer the Library's question regarding what she believes are the most precarious issues of our lives. In a message entitled "How Not to Die," which will be available as a hand-printed chapbook, Danticat discusses the yearning for wellness, health and continuity in light of Danticat's and her loved ones' brushes with mortality.
Edwidge Danticat is the author of several books, including The Farming of Bones, Krik? Krak! and Breath, Eyes, Memory. Her memoir, Brother, I’m Dying, was a 2007 finalist for the National Book Award and a 2008 winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award for autobiography. Danticat is a 2009 MacArthur fellow.

Rob Fields is the President and Executive Director of Weeksville Heritage Center, a multidisciplinary museum dedicated to preserving the history of the 19th century African American community of Weeksville, Brooklyn, one of America’s many free black communities.
Tanya Selvaratnam is a writer, an actor, an activist, and an Emmy-nominated and Webby-winning producer. With Laurie Anderson and Laura Michalchyshyn, she is the Co-Founder of The Federation: a coalition of artists, organizations, and allies committed to keeping cultural borders open and showing how art unites us (wearethefederation.org). For more than a decade, she has been Producer for Aubin Pictures, founded by Catherine Gund. Most recently, she has been Executive Video Producer/Director for GLAMOUR Women of the Year and Planned Parenthood. She is the author of THE BIG LIE: Motherhood, Feminism, and the Reality of the Biological Clock.
