Mapleton Library - History

Branch History

After two decades in smaller locations, Mapleton Library opened at its current home on the corner of 17th Avenue and 60th Street in 1955. The branch’s most popular programs include Homework Help, Story Play, Chess Club and Teen Tech Time.

Mapleton is home to Washington Cemetery, the largest inhabited Jewish cemetery in New York. Nearby is Gravesend Park, located at 18th Ave. and 56th Street. Many consider Mapleton a true melting pot, as it is home to Hasidic, Italian-American and Asian-American families, along with residents from many other communities.
