book club book discussion comics

Greetings, Fellow Graphic Novel Enthusiasts! AiHGNBC is back and now meeting the last Saturday of every month at the Park Slope Library.

To mix things up this year, we'll attempt to read series full through, but will vote after the first volume (yay or nay) whether to move on to another series.  Concurrently we'll sample read from a broad range of formats/genres within the Graphic Novel realm (comics, manga, fiction, non-fiction & memoir; sci-fi, fantasy, horror, slice-of-life, etc.) especially if there are tie-ins to the series we select.

So whether you only read Graphic Novels or haven't picked up a comic since the Sunday funnies, this club's for you! You don't have to read all texts listed below, but come ready to engage regardless. If wait times for books are long, we don't mind if you use your other library cards to procure books. We spread library love: it's the Brooklyn way.

APRIL

Spring is in the air. And Earth Day is right around the corner.

So you know that means we'll be reading some dystopian novels.

But first...

The Series:

We'll finish volumes 2 and 3 of the SnotGirl series by Bryan Lee O Malley  (a total stretch but maybe her allergies are a commentary on how climate change wreaks havoc on our bodies and the earth...?)

The Samplings:

Just read the 1st volumes. And even of this, you don't have to read all three.

Survival Street by James Asmus (This copy combines volumes 1 through 4, but you don't have to read the whole thing)

Die. Volume 1: Fantasy Heartbreaker by Kieron Gillen

Battle Angel Alita (Volume 1) by Yukito Kishiro

Honorable Mentions: These visually incorporate something beautiful about this blue marble we call home and can be read if you need a palate cleanser from all the dystopia ( spoiler alert, they're still kind of dark/out there though) Absolutely OPTIONAL

Eight-Lane Runaways by Henry McCausland

The Many Deaths of Laila Starr by Ram V

When Everything Turned Blue by Allessandro Baronciani

Happy April, Folks!
