Artists on Site Residency: Brighton Talks- Artist Neil Goldberg & Author Boris Fishman
BPL Artist-in-Residence Neil Goldberg presents “Inhibited Bites,” an imaginative performance conversation inviting special guests and engaging with the artist's collection of over 1,000 index cards containing passing reflections from over ten years.
For this edition of Inhibited Bites, hosted as part of Brighton Talks, Goldberg welcomes acclaimed author Boris Fishman. Fishman's recent memoirSavage Feast, 2019 (Harper Collins) captures the emigre experience and his family's relationship to food.
In the spirit of Fishman's memoir, refreshments and light food will follow an audience Q & A.
About the Artist: Neil Goldberg makes video, photo, mixed media, and performance work that’s been exhibited throughout North American and Europe and is in the permanent collections of MoMA, the Museum of the City of New York, and elsewhere. The New York Times described his work as “tender, moving and sad but also deeply funny," and Time Out New York wrote “Goldberg has produced some of the most quietly intense and affecting art of his generation.” He teaches at the Yale University School of Art and is a Guggenheim fellow.
About the Author: Boris Fishman was born in Minsk, Belarus, and immigrated with his family to Bensonhurst in 1988, at nine. He is the author of the novel A Replacement Life, a New York Times Notable Book of the Year that also won the VCU Cabell First Novelist Award and the American Library Association's Sophie Brody Medal, and Don't Let My Baby Do Rodeo, also a New York Times Notable Book of the Year. His new book is Savage Feast, a nonfiction family history told through recipes. He lives in New York City and teaches Creative Writing at Princeton University.
