book club book discussion One Book One New York

2019’s One Book, One New York city-wide book club selection is National Book Award-winning Just Kids by famed musician and icon Patti Smith! At once an honest and moving story of youth and a portrait of two young artists ascent to fame and a salute to New York City during a pivotal time in its long history. Just Kids provides a rare glimpse of Smith’s remarkable relationship with photographer Robert Mapplethorpe in the late sixties and seventies; a fable and a portrait of two young artists' ascent on their path to fame.

Reserve a special Book Club Sets copy of the novel, or pick one up on display in the Language and Literature division. Click here for more information about the Book Club Sets collection.

Finished the book early, why not read ahead to the next discussion on August 20th, How Should a Person Be? by Sheila Heti? Or if you can't get enough of reading about NYC in the 1970s, check out Fear City: New York's Fiscal Crisis and the Rise of Austerity Politics by Kim Phillips-Fein.
