Dive into the Brooklyn Museum’s new exhibition showcasing work by artist Jeffrey Gibson alongside documents and artifacts collected by early 20th century ethnologist and museum curator Stewart Culin, as we examine the juxtaposition of how and who has told Native American history past and present. Receive an insider’s tour of the exhibition and corresponding archival materials with museum archivist Molly Seegers; learn about the history of displaying Native American works and the challenges found therein; take home lesson ideas for understanding bias in history and other resources educators can use to thoughtfully and responsibly engage their students with Native American histories and culture today. Hadrien Coumans, co-director of the Lenape Center in Manhattan, will speak about the enduring influence of Lenape arts and culture in New York City.

Brooklyn Connections is an approved NYSED Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE) sponsor.
