BPL's three Bookmobiles take library service on the road, bringing books, technology and programs to neighborhoods throughout Brooklyn. Every year, the Bookmobiles visit schools, shelters, parks and more, serving thousands of patrons where they live, work and play.
Our walk-up service model means you can enjoy BPL's resources entirely outside—the Bookmobile's library collection is set up on the sidewalk, so you can browse, borrow and return books without ever stepping inside the vehicle.
Meet the Fleet
Each of BPL's Bookmobiles carries a specially curated collection of 6,000 books. When you stop by a Bookmobile, you can check materials in or out, sign up for a library card and more. There are four Bookmobiles in operation:
- Two standard Bookmobiles: BPL's classic Bookmobiles offer library card registration and books for all ages. Plus, they are equipped with an antenna so you can access free WiFi when you're nearby!
- Techmobile: visit BPL's WiFi-enabled Techmobile to borrow a laptop for use at one of our outdoor tables. There are also desktop computers available inside the Techmobile, which was outfitted with air filters for safety.
- Kidsmobile: BPL's Kidsmobile offers a variety of books for children and teens.
More About BPL's Bookmobiles
- The Bookmobiles have books, DVDs, grab & go crafts, activity books, and informational fliers about BPL's programs and services. The Techmobile has laptops and desktop computers available for use, and the Kidsmobile offers materials and programming specifically for children and teens. Please note that DVDs are not available on the Kidsmobile.
When you stop by a Bookmobile, you can:
- Return BPL books and materials that you've borrowed from any BPL branch
- Borrow books and DVDs; you can check out materials from BPL staff at the service window or directly from your phone using the BPL App
- Sign up for a library card
- Access free Wi-Fi
- Relax or study in our reading areas
- Get help placing materials on hold for pickup at a BPL branch
- Due to a lack of space, you can't pick up holds at the Bookmobiles. You also can't settle any library fees at the Bookmobiles.
